My career kick-off: Days at Apara

What the heck!! How the hell did I land up here in Chennai?? Im earning, independent, my parents never forced me to work outside Banglore and ‘I’ did not choose to work here as well. Well then wats happening???..

I had dreamt during my college days that once I start working, I’ll buy an imported bike, I’ll take over responsibilities from my dad, I’l do this, that.. But now… nothings worked out for me till now..
Life never travels in the way u want it to. No matter how well you plan, it’ll travel in its own way. How cruel isnt it….or is it??
Well, a long story on how I landed here—
I started off my career at ‘Apara Enterprise Solutions’. I got into this company thru campus selection conducted at my college. Well the interview experience was great, I gave my written round at Chikmaglur and second round was at Apara office.
My reporting day at Apara was on 2nd August 2006, I felt tensed up, spent sleepless nights as my DOJ was fast approaching. Finally on that day, I woke up early, got ready, visited temple and started off my adventurous career. Oops, I almost forgot to mention, the day coincidentally happened to be my birthday as well !!!!!!!.
We were around 23 freshers who got selected from all over Karnataka. We had a brief introductory session, our documents were verified, and we were formally introduced to the team. I was sitting on one of the corners, silent and watch things go by till noon. I went out with a few for lunch, came back and to my surprise my colleagues had arranged a party for me. Woah I got a lil tense since as it was my 1st day at office. I had a tuff time blowing off those magic candles, finally cut d cake and all my seniors attended the party and we had loads of fun later. Woah!! wat else can u hope for on d first day of ur career J..It turned out to be one of the best days of my life.

And the next 2 days we had our formal induction program at Hotel Regalace. We had a very well planned and well organized training which lasted for abt 2 months. We were trained on SAN, NAS, and other storage and networking concepts.

My favorite faculty used to be Girisha, he used to take sessions on storage technologies. I remember all the concepts that he taught me till this day. I used to wait for his classes with full enthu, he took sessions on RAID, WAFL, backup strategies, snap mirroring…etc. Girisha was my favorite lecturer and I was his favorite student. Other good faculties were Rampi- our networking mentor, Joji- the person who took my interview and Ambaji.
Joji had one day asked me to take session on File Systems and.. woala I managed to goof it up, but to my surprise I got a good feedback frm colleagues for that hehehhe.
I bought my very own bike Discover in a couple of months. I used to zoom on my bike to office everyday. Monsoon has started off, and most of the time I used to get drenched while coming back home. About 40 kms of bike ride everyday, that too with heavy traffic particularly on Airport road.
Enjoying with friends at Banashankari BDA park everyday, a new found Vitamin -M, everything seemed great at that point of time.

Soon I was assigned with my first project, I was asked to collect details of storage servers at Intel data centers, gosh it used to be real cold at data centers.

—————Well, this is how a datacentre looks like————–

Hmm.. to be frank I dint like the kind of work I was asked to do. We were being asked to work on administrative kind of work, as storage admins, to be more precise. I had dreams of becoming a programmer. I enquired with my friends, did a bit of investigation, and most of my friends asked me not to continue my work as a storage admin. We colleagues, formed a small group among ourselves; we used to discuss about our classmates; their pay packages and their work quality, cribbing ourselves for choosing to work at Apara. And then there was a shocker from HR manager of our company, we were all asked to sign a bond for 2 years with the company. Also to my shock I was transferred to Mumbai and was asked to work on GE project there. I decided not to go, rather quit the company. I started looking out for a new company, along with my other colleagues. I was back to square one in 4 months after I started off my career.
